Fail-Safe On-Air
Broadcast Pix switcher is the workstation-based switchers designed from the ground up for live production. Live broadcasts are a most unforgiving environment, because you can never backup and never re-shoot, no matter whether your broadcast is from a TV antenna, over a cable network, the web or a projector. So, Broadcast Pix builds multiple redundancies into every system for fail-safe on-air operation.
Ride Through a Workstation Lock-Up
Most conventional control rooms now have many workstations. One inside
a CG, one in a clip store, one in a still store, one in a multi-view,
etc. Modern high performance workstations have become exceptionally
reliable. But no matter now reliable they are, protection is needed if
the day ever comes when the workstation stops in the middle of a live
show. All Broadcast Pix systems have as a standard feature the ability
to ride through any workstation lock-up or failure.
The Broadcast Pix Slate 100 and Slate 1000 switchers have fail-safe
support for 1 camera. You pick the camera by plugging it into a
specific input in the back of the Slate workstation. If the computer
stops working this camera is automatically routed to program. The show
never goes black.
The
Broadcast Pix 2000 Switcher and the Broadcast Pix Slate 2100 take
fail-safe to another level - Fail Safe Switching. Their Broadcast Pix
panel has redundant control cables. Ethernet is the primary control
mechanism, over which the panel is always sniffing the network to make
sure the workstation and network are up and running. If a failure is
detected the panel can automatically shift over fail-safe control mode
using a separate serial cable to the iBoB. This bypasses the
workstation, and enables all 8 of the iBoB's cameras to stay on the
air, and can still be switched from the panel. When the workstation
comes back, its graphics and clips can be gracefully reapplied.
Ride Through a Panel Failure
Every Broadcast Pix physical control panel has a redundant soft control
panel as standard equipment If the physical panel should ever stop
functioning, all controls can be performed in an identical manner from
the SoftPanel. Broadcast Pix is the only switcher that includes a back
up control panel.
Ride Through a Power Failure
The Slate 2100 includes redundant panel for the panel and iBoB as
standard equipment. All Broadcast Pix switchers can also add, as an
affordable option, redundant power supplies for all hardware
components, including the workstation, panel and iBoB. If any one power
supply should ever fail, its redundant supply takes over automatically.
