Granite Features

End to End Integration

Granite is ideal for the most demanding large productions. It ingests up to 22 cameras, as well as files and cloud based content, has the full suite of Broadcast Pix production tools controlling the integrated switcher, clip server and CG to create highly professional video, and then delivers the production with many outputs, exceptional low latency and high redundancy.

Integrated Ingest

  • Ingest up to 22 Cameras: 11 or 22 HD/SD SDI inputs for cameras and other external inputs. Mix and match I/O formats, as each input auto-detects 1080i, 720p or SD, adds frame sync if necessary, and can aspect correct.

  • Ingest Files pushed in from anywhere in your studio: Fluent Watch-folders enable clip, animation and graphics files to be pushed into Granite from anywhere on your network. For example, from a Final Cut pro editing station, push clips into Granite, even during and on-air production.

  • Ingest Cloud-Based Content: Today’s changing live video production environment needs to accommodate cloud-based content. In V3.5 software, Granite will connect with cloud data storage services including Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft SkyDrive. Now when you are home and remember you forgot to add a critical graphic to your show, you can do it from your smartphone. And your colleagues can add files to your production from across town or across the globe.

  • Ingest Twitter, RRS Feeds, Databases, Scoreboards… With enhanced Fluent Rapid CG, Granite can flow Twitter and RSS feeds directly to air or pre-screen them. Graphics can also be updated from local and cloud-based databases to automate multiple graphics simultaneously. And graphics can be automatically updated from Daktronics and OES scoreboards.

  • Control Surfaces:  Granite has a wide variety of control choices. Each Granite system supports two monitors (4 optional, and 4 are standard on Granite X) and ships with a keyboard and mouse, and can also be controlled via mouse, touch screen, iPad, or tablet. Optional control panels include a 500 compact panel, 1000 panel with patented PixButtons , wide 2000 panel, full 2 M/E 5000 panel and our largest 6000 panel. More on Control Surfaces

  • Switcher:  At the heart of Granite is a powerful switcher that accepts up to 22 video inputs plus 7 channels of built in clips and graphics. Mix 1080i, 720p and SD video sources. There are 6 key layers, with customizable DVEs for Picture and Picture and flying keys, and chromakeys. Enjoy stunning animated transitions at the push of a button.

  • Dual Channel Clip Server:  Granite’s dual channel clip servers can play out up to 60 hours of clips and animations, with audio (expandable to up to 180 hours). Play Apple, Adobe and Avid clips in H.264, ProRes clips or DHxHD formats. Plus, there are 1 or 2 channels of animations for transitions, backgrounds and moving titles. Clips can be individually set to auto-start when taken to air, auto-transition, rewind, loop, etc.

  • CG Graphics: Granite has 6 channels of graphics stores which you can fill with any graphics, or create your own broadcast quality titles with the built-in Inscriber CG (Character generator) from Harris Broadcast, to create professional titles, animations and rolls and crawls.

  • Patented Device Control Bank:  Every control surface has a device control bank that enables control of any internal or external device. Select the device and then use the 12 button PixPad to select any file, macro, robotic camera preset, etc. Device controls also include joystick, knobs and display. Enables fast action control of all content.

  • Fluent Macros:  Add dazzle. Easily executes any combination of video, files, and device moves for complex effects with the push of a button. Save up to 1000 macros. Great for double boxes, triple boxes and intros, and any complex shot. Enables a novice to look like a pro. The 2000, 5000 and 6000 panels have dedicated Fluent-Macros control banks for instant access.

  • ClearKey:  Use the next generation chromakeyer that features one touch control and delivers outstanding results.

  • Virtual Sets: Shoot talent in front of a green or blue screen and then place in any location with virtual sets. Use the included sets, or easily create your own out of any picture with the included virtual set editor. Combine with Macros for PiP or slow zooms.

  • Customizable Fluent-View:  Comprehensive heads-up display shows I/O, key layers, file libraries, clocks, counters, safe areas, incoming files and more. Completely customizable as every window is resizable and movable. Supports up to 4 monitors and replicate windows across monitors. Full motion monitoring windows include 4 outputs, 8 external inputs (16 on Granite X), 1 clip channel, up to 6 key windows.

  • Control Robotic Cameras and other Devices: Control robotic cameras from Lumens, Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi or Telemetrics. See the thumbnails on the Fluent-View and select presets, or manually control. Also control video servers and recorders from Blackmagin, AJA, EditShare, Grass Valley, Omneon, Harris and 360 Systems. Control streamers from ViewCast, and audio mixers from Yamaha and others.

  • Add Operators: Granite can be controlled by one operator or shared for more complex productions. Add a graphics operator on the keyboard, or add an operator on an iPad or a Soft Panel on laptop, tablet or Android. Or download a free iPhone app.

Integrated Delivery

  • Up to 12 SDI Outputs: There are 6 SDI multi-definition outputs, or optional 12.

  • 2 DVI Outputs: 2 DVI outputs are great for monitoring or feeding a projector.

  • Up to 3 Screens at Once: Drive up to 3 screens at once with program and dual PowerAux™ outputs or a second M/E, and add key layers to all. Great for 3 IMAG screens, 3 internet streams, 3 television channels, or any combination.

  • Built-in Router: send any SDI input to any SDI outputs.

  • Ultra Low Latency: Maintain lip-sync no matter how hard you push Granite, thanks to our patented process. And enjoy exceptional end-to-end low latency of just 1 frame (that’s 33 ms at 60Hz, 40 ms at 50Hz) with gen-locked sources, which is ideal for the most demanding live events. Other systems add latency when you use PiP, convert formats, or other actions, causing lip-sync to be lost.

  • Highly Redundant: Granite has the highest level of redundancy so you’re always on air. The Granite switcher can switch cameras even without its Granite server. Granite has redundant power on its switcher, server and panel. If the panel ever stops, you can control from a soft panel or the Fluent View. And the premium storage option adds redundant drives to its clip store.

  • Great Support: With Broadcast Pix you enjoy knowledgeable, helpful technical support. These experts can even log into your system remotely to diagnose any issue and help you create with confidence.

Granite is the largest member of the Broadcast Pix family of integrated production systems.
